Wedding & Custom Shawls

Wedding Bouquet Shawl

After the Wedding or Special Event…

Preserve the memories from that special day in a silk shawl. Along with your dried bouquet, I use steam, pressure, natural dyes, and an organic silk shawl to create a botanically ecoprinted, one-of-a-kind, heirloom art piece for you to wear. (The pictures on this page are examples. Your shawl will be unique.)

These stunning shawls are created with Ahimsa Peace silk. That means these shawls are woven from silk cocoons gathered after the moth has emerged. The caterpillars are not harmed in the process as they are in conventional silk production. The shawls measure 82″ long and 27″ wide, with a delicate luster and fine tassel ends. Total cost for the silk shawl and ecoprinting service is $175 + shipping.  (Wool shawls are also available upon request.)

Plants For Ecoprinting

There are many flowers, leaves, barks, and roots that create lovely prints. Some favorites that you might think about putting in your bouquet are Eucalyptus, Roses, Ranunculus, Scabiosa, Dahlia, Zinnia… there are so many more to choose from. Keep in mind, white flowers usually don’t create a print, but it is possible to use them as what is called a ‘resist’. If you are planning your bouquet or wonder if what is in your bouquet will make a print, please feel free to contact me. I’m happy to chat with you about it.

Drying Your Bouquet

The simplest way to dry your bouquet is to hang it upside down in a warm, dry place out of direct sunlight. (Too much humidity could allow the flowers to mold and too much sunlight could cause the flowers to fade.) Before hanging, remove any ribbons and put those aside for keepsakes. Also, remove any wires or metal from the bouquet. Use a strong rubber band to secure the bottom of your bouquet, and hang. Your bouquet should be dry and ready for shipping in a couple of weeks. If you are local and want to get your bouquet to me while it’s fresh, that is fine too.
